About me
I was born in 1954 and raised in Puerto Rico. I learned two languages at the same time as I was growing up. I also grew up wondering why my choices in life were limited just because I was a girl.
Fast-forward to 2024. My journey has finally brought me, through ups and downs, to fulfill my lifelong dream: to learn, to fill my eyes with the beauty of language and my mind with the wonders of human communication.
I will slowly fill these pages with the fruits of my academic research, but I may also sprinkle them with poetry and paintings that I have been carrying in my soul without ever finding a good home for them. I may also share the bounty of my explorations in the world of rhetoric, a brave new world I am just starting to discover.
One way or another, this will be the place where you will come to know who I am.

Do Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals in the U.S. criminal justice system truly have a voice? Has anyone ever asked them if they understand when they are provided with an interpreter in court? Or is the interpreter an institutional mechanism to keep the LEP voiceless and on the fringes of justice?
Are language rights a legal fiction?
