Between 1992 and 1995 I documented a small group of women who were working in the sugar cane fields, collected their stories, and researched the history of women sugar cane cutters in Puerto Rico. Official history books claimed they had never existed. By documenting their lives and their work I have tried to rescue the ones I found and the ones who came before them so history no longer ignores or erases them.
